It requires me to review paragraphs and articles a few times before I can rewrite them in my own words.

Goal Attainment Theory

Goal Attainment Theory focuses primarily on setting goals and measuring progress with specific, quantifiable objectives (Gonzalo, 2021). The notion highlights the advantages of health information and the significance of communication between patients and nurses. It also highlights the importance of communication and providing information to the public regarding health issues such as disease prevention viral outbreaks or disease outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal attainment theory for me will be applied through education and community development relationships through various means such as schools churches community outreach centers in public gatherings. As a future nurse educator I also want to focus on educating people on HIV aids prevention methods. I’ve come to understand that there are certain populations there are more on the social conservative side that are still vulnerable to contracting HIV/AIDS and other STIs/STD’s. The goal is to have these difficult discussions with those vulnerable populations that still view sex as a taboo with the purpose of educating them on self love self-care and dispelling shame. In my family I have experienced two people who have died from HIV aids who could have been alive today had they known about the medications that are there that help people live longer lives and the preventative medications that exist that help to prevent acquiring HIV/AIDS. There are still some people within my culture who are older who still believe that HIV/AIDS can be contracted through touching in affected person and who still believed that is airborne. The goal as a nurse educator is to help those better understand how the virus is contracted and the preventative measures that exist to prevent the requirement of said disease, as well as resources available for screening for sexually transmitted diseases.

Sister Callista Roy’s Adaptation Model of Nursing fits well in the field of healthcare quality and patient safety. Her theory of nursing has been classified as an “Outcome Theory” (Meleis, 2011). For example, in order to reduce the incidence of central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs), a hospital may develop and enact central line care protocols. These protocols aim to unify practice for a specific population (all patients with central lines). Once the protocols have been in practice for a period of time, metrics can be studied to determine if the incidence of CLABSIs has decreased. Relating this example to Roy’s Adaptation Model of Nursing, it is clear that this intervention is outcome focused. The goal is to improve patient outcomes by avoiding the sequalae of CLABSIs. In this example, the environment that is being altered is the care that is used to maintain central lines. The predictions regarding how patients will respond to the changed environment are that fewer patients will experience a CLABSI. The follow up evaluation of metrics is the assessment of how the patient adapted to their changed environment.

Roy’s Adaptation Model of Nursing can be applied to many nursing care interventions to facilitate positive change in patient outcomes.
