Write a reflection of 750-1,000 words in which you identify your strengths and weaknesses related to the four content areas below:

Personal and professional accountability
Career planning
Personal journey disciplines
Reflective practice reference behaviors/tenets
Discuss how you will use your current leadership skill set to advocate for change in your workplace.
Identify one personal goal for your leadership growth and discuss your implementation plan to achieve that goal.
A minimum of Five scholarly references are required for this assignment. solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, an abstract is not required, CITE WEBSITE SOURCE
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes. Nurse Manager Skills Inventory Essay
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CLASS

Discussion Questions (DQ)
Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, including a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.
One or two-sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words.
I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
Weekly Participation

Nurse Manager Skills Inventory Essay

Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately.
In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies.
Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work).
Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.
APA Format and Writing Quality
Familiarize yourself with APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required).
Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation.
I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
Use of Direct Quotes
I discourage overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly.
As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content.
It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
LopesWrite Policy
For assignments that need to be submitted to LopesWrite, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me.
Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes.
Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own?
Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.
Late Policy
The university’s policy on late assignments is 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies.
Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice. We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances.
If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect.
I do not accept assignments that are two or more weeks late unless we have worked out an extension.
As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.
Communication
Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me:
Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. If you have a question, there is a good chance one of your peers does as well. This is a public forum for the class.
Individual Forum: This is a private forum to ask me questions or send me messages. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours.

Question Description
Review the Health care Program/Policy Evaluation Analysis Template provided in the Resources.
Select an existing healthcare program or policy evaluation or choose one of interest to you. Here is an example of a Health care Program Evaluation Example:https://www.nichd.nih.gov/sites/default/files/publications/pubs/documents/msy_evaluation_report_final.pdf
You do NOT need to get approval from me if 1) the evaluation that you selected has been done on a health care program or a policy, 2) it fits the assignment criteria, and 3) you are able to apply and respond to the questions in the assignment queue.
Review the health care program or policy evaluation and reflect on the criteria used to measure the effectiveness of the program or policy described.
To Complete the Assignment (2–3 pages), based on the program or policy evaluation you selected, complete the Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation Analysis Template. Be sure to address the following:
Describe the health care program or policy outcomes.
How was the success of the program or policy measured?
How many people were reached by the program or policy selected?
How much of an impact was realized with the program or policy selected?
At what point in program implementation was the program or policy evaluation conducted?
What data was used to conduct the program or policy evaluation?
What specific information on unintended consequences was identified?
What stakeholders were identified in the evaluation of the program or policy? Who would benefit most from the results and reporting of the program or policy evaluation? Be specific and provide examples.
Did the program or policy meet the original intent and objectives? Why or why not?
Would you recommend implementing this program or policy in your place of work? Why or why not?
Identify at least two ways that you, as a nurse advocate, could become involved in evaluating a program or policy after 1 year of implementation.

One or two sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words.
I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.

Weekly Participation

Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately.
In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies.

The Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010. Many of the provisions of the law directly affect health care providers. Review the following topic materials:
“About the Affordable Care Act”
“Health Care Transformation: The Affordable Care Act and More”
What are the most important elements of the Affordable Care Act in relation to community and public health? What is the role of the nurse in implementing this law?
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, include a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.

Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work).
Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.

Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation
Affordable Care Act 2010 Policy

Description
The aim of the policy is to increase the number of individuals covered by medical insurance. The policy also aims at improving the quality of medical care and costs.

How was the success of the program or policy measured?

The success of the policy is measures using health insurance companies and effects on the number of individuals with health insurance. These firms reported an increase in enrollment based on estimated projections by the policy (Courtemanche et al., 2018). For instance, the rate of uninsured individuals dropped by close to 20% since the policy’s enactment.

How many people were reached by the program or policy selected? How much of an impact was realized with the program or policy selected?

Over 20 million people that were never insured got covered through the Affordable Care Act. These include individuals with pre-existing conditions (Sommers et al., 2017). The uninsured levels fell in all levels of income, households, level of education and among the various ethnic groups. The issue of paying bills was resolved as more people who did not visit healthcare providers dropped with more accessing care interventions.

What data was used to conduct the program or policy evaluation?

The enactment of ACA policy was based on the declining rates of employer-based insurance coverage and an increase in the number of individuals without medical insurance. For instance, the level of uninsured nonelderly individuals was a concern as soon as their parents’ coverage stopped due to high cost of insurance premiums.

What specific information on unintended consequences were identified?

The insured will have limited access to healthcare providers and get sub-standard service since only a small number of providers will accept lower rates than those in the private market. Healthy young adults were mandated to buy extensive policies without any need due to subsidies for the uninsured. The plan leaves limited options for the participants and discourages entry of new players as they cannot dictate prices which reduces competitiveness.

What stakeholders were identified in the evaluation of the program or policy? Who would benefit most from the results and reporting of the program or policy evaluation? Be specific and provide examples.

The involved stakeholder in policy evaluation included state and federal government and agencies, health insurance firms, political leaders, the Supreme court and the public.
The main beneficiaries of the policy include young adults since the premiums were reduced to allow them purchase insurance coverage (Milstead & Short, 2019). Irrespective of the ethnic group, income or education level, everyone would benefit from the policy upon enrollment due to the lower rates of premium.

Did the program or policy meet the original intent and objectives? Why or why not?

The Affordable Care Act 2010 met its original intent and objectives since the number of uninsured individuals and households dropped significantly. The policy subsidized insurance premium rates. Insurance companies reported improved enrollment rates while hospitals recorded a rise in the number of visits by patients covered for different health care needs (Sommers et al., 2017). The policy’s ability to increase health insurance markets and options is considered as a fundamental part of its effectiveness and attaining intended objectives.

Would you recommend implementing this program or policy in your place of work? Why or why not?

Yes, I would highly recommend the policy in my workplace because of the benefits that it offers to employees and even employers. The policy promotes health through subsidized insurance premiums that allow individuals with pre-existing conditions to enroll and get medical care. The policy promotes primary care interventions as individuals can access healthcare services for reviews and screening (Courtemanche et al., 2018). The policy also demonstrates the need for state and federal governments to understand the importance of health insurance coverage in reducing the cost of healthcare.

Identify at least two ways that you, as a nurse advocate, could become involved in evaluating a program or policy after one year of implementation.

As a nurse advocate, evaluation of the policy is essential, especially its outcomes and impacts on the targeted populations. In this case, the policy had intended and unintended consequences and its evaluation is important in informing better interventions to address the negative effects. Through the evaluation, one makes a comparison on outcomes and anticipated results to ascertain the difference (Laureate Education, 2018). Secondly, evaluation of cost and benefit is essential as it demonstrates the overall economic viability and sustainability of the policy, particularly in the long-term (Williams & Anderson, 2018). Cost-benefit analysis and cost-effectiveness studies cane be critical in understanding the effects of the policy.

General Notes/Comments
The enactment of the ACA 2010 remains a historic and landmark decision that transformed healthcare forever and ensured that more Americans could access better health interventions. The positive effects of ACA 2010 are critical for cost-reduction efforts and quality of care. Conversely, the act has unintended effects like reduced competitiveness of the healthcare environment. However, the policy remains a critical part of enhancing quality care and affordable health in the country.

Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation Analysis Template

The evaluation of a policy is an important aspect that will address its effectiveness in regards to addressing the intended objectives. The role of the nurses in conducting this evaluation is paramount based on their expertise and advocacy credentials. One of the foremost policies that has received a lot of attention is the Affordable Care Act. At its inception, the policy was designed to increase the reach of healthcare services to a large portion of the populace. The purpose of the present paper is therefore to assess the effectiveness of the ACA in the above regard by analyzing various aspects such as its success and reach among others.

Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation

Affordable Care Policy/Affordable Care Act

Description

Affordable care policy was enacted in the year 2010 to reduce the cost of healthcare system. In other words, the Affordable Care Act was enacted to provide affordable insurance coverage to millions of Americans who were uninsured. Affordable care polity expanded Medicaid eligibility, created market insurance market place, stopped or prevented health insurance companies from limiting or denying insurance coverage to the pre-existing conditions (Chen et al., 2018). The plan also expanded the coverage for health benefits to essential health benefits. With the affordable health insurance, lower-income families qualified for subsidies for the coverage purchased the marketplace. The introduction of the Affordable Care Act has altered the processes of healthcare provision across different countries and within the United States of America. The Affordable care act has exposed the employers to a new set of challenges across the medical spectrum and on the other hand, it has brought numerous opportunities. In the recent times, the medical costs have skyrocketed and in the recent times, the medical insurers account for more compensation for workers.

How was the success of the program or policy measured?

The success of Affordable Care Policy was measured through the number of insurance coverage. After the implementation of the policy, millions of poor Americans were insured. Majority of Americans were able to get quality healthcare services at cheaper costs. The success of Affordable Care policy was also measured through the improvement in quality healthcare services (Milstead & Short, 2019). The implementation of the policy involved billions of money, the main objective of allocating such money was to enhance the quality of services delivered through introduction of research processes and evidence-based practices. Also, the policy enhance training of healthcare professionals to acquire knowledge for managing some of the emerging diseases. The success of the policy can therefore be measured through the improvement in quality services in different hospitals and health centers.

How many people were reached by the program or policy selected? How much of an impact was realized with the program or policy selected?

The policy impacted millions of people across the United States. Affordable Care policy impacted about 61 million women across the United State. In other words, 61 million women were able to access contraception without any out-of-pocket costs. The expansion of Medicaid was associated with the 19,200 fewer deaths among older low-income adults from the year 2013 to the year 2017 (Glied & Jackson, 2017). Also, the policy led to the 15, 600 preventable deaths across the United States of America. The policy led to the significant reduction in the number of mortalities associated with different complications.

At what point in program implementation was the program or policy evaluation conducted?

The policy evaluation was conducted at the legislation stage. There were several legislation processes to verify some of the aspects of the policy. There was evaluation in terms of the budgeting process, the costs of medication, as well as the impacts on the political, social, and economic environment.

What data was used to conduct the program or policy evaluation?

Healthcare data from different institutions were used to inform different aspects of the policy. The data applied were drawn from different organizations including Center for Disease Control and infection, World Health Organization as well as the data from the Federal and states department of health.

What specific information on unintended consequences were identified?

Some of the unintended consequences of the policy include poor legislation and opposition from different political divide. Also, the political activities are some of the unintended consequences of the policy. While developing the policy, some of the political factors were not put into consideration.

What stakeholders were identified in the evaluation of the program or policy? Who would benefit most from the results and reporting of the program or policy evaluation? Be specific and provide examples.

Some of the stakeholders include healthcare consumers, healthcare providers, federal government, state government, as well as employers. Healthcare consumers include citizens and all other beneficiaries of healthcare services. Also, legislators are key part of the Affordable Care Policy. Some of the people that will benefit most include consumers who would experiences a significant reduction in the healthcare costs. Also, political actors will be able to benefit from the healthcare policy (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2017).

Did the program or policy meet the original intent and objectives? Why or why not?

The policy met the original intent and objectives. Millions of Americans experienced significant reduction in the healthcare costs. In other words, all people from different social-economic status were to receive quality and less costly healthcare services as intended. Also, there was a general improvement in the quality healthcare services delivered to patients (In Powers, 2020). Today, millions of Americans continue to enjoy cheap/affordable and quality healthcare services to patients and all the citizens.

Would you recommend implementing this program or policy in your place of work? Why or why not?

I would recommend implementing this policy in my workplace. One of the main objectives of my organization is to improve the quality of healthcare services. Also, the organization aims at ensuring the delivery of affordable healthcare services to different members of the community. Affordable Care Policy can therefore be implemented to meet the above objectives.

Identify at least two ways that you, as a nurse advocate, could become involved in evaluating a program or policy after one year of implementation.

As a nurse advocate, I would get involved in evaluating the provision of training for the healthcare professionals as well as the benefits anticipated from the increased activities such as research processes. In other words, I would get involved in the evaluation of key benefits and well as roles of healthcare professionals as stipulated in the policy.

General Notes/Comments

The implementation of Affordable Care Policy involved different stakeholders skilled or with experience in different areas of practice in the healthcare systems. Also, with effective planning at every step, the government managed to implement different aspects of the policy without significant interference from other institutions. The policy met the original intent and objectives. Millions of Americans experienced significant reduction in the healthcare costs. In other words, all people from different social-economic status were to receive quality and less costly healthcare services as intended.

Conclusion

The ACA was intended to ensure that the quality and affordability of healthcare services in the United States were improved. The analysis revealed that it largely achieved its original objective based on the number of people who are ensured in the aftermath of its inception. Nurses have an important advocacy role to play in the success of the program.

Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, include a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.

Informatics is changing the face of healthcare. As technology advances, healthcare organizations and providers are able to collect, analyze and leverage data more effectively, influencing the way care is delivered, resources are managed and teams operate each day. You would be hard-pressed to find an aspect of medicine that has yet to be touched by the mass collection and analysis of data that has been ushered in by the Information Age.
One specific area that health informatics is having a significant impact on is the practice of nursing. Though the mission of nursing remains unchanged, the daily work of these professionals is being strongly influenced by informatics, with particular attention to the accuracy and communication of patient data and care.
Health informatics in nursing
The nursing profession is rapidly changing to keep up with advancements and new challenges in the healthcare field. As direct caregivers, nurses are in the front lines of patient care and consequently often feel the impact of changes in best practices more immediately than other healthcare professionals.
Spyros Kitsiou, Assistant Professor of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, reported that there are three specific challenges that healthcare is currently facing: the aging population, the incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases – such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and pulmonary disease – and the shortage of doctors and nurses. Though these problems are diverse, there is a solution that addresses all three: data.
“A lot of these challenges can be supported by the avocation of information and communication technologies, particularly as hospitals are becoming more and more interested in reducing their costs and shifting care from hospital care to home care,” Spyros said. “Information and communication technologies, mobile health devices, wearable technologies are all becoming very, very important for supporting remote patient monitoring and home care.”
In nursing, as with healthcare in general, informatics is being used to address the challenges of the day, significantly impacting the way nurses function in patient care.
One of the primary ways that informatics has changed nursing practice is through documentation. Gone are the days of paper charts that had to be meticulously updated with handwritten notes. Today, nurses are more likely to input notes into electronic health records and other systems that keep a patient’s medical history up-to-date and easily accessible.
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society reported that as the result of electronic charting, nurses are able to obtain information quickly and efficiently, using the information to improve the daily workflow. Storing the information electronically is more easily available to all members of the care team, including the physician and other care providers, as well as staff teams at other healthcare organizations that the patient may visit. As the U.S. population becomes more mobile, it is increasingly important that their personal medical records can travel with them to any office or medical organization they may visit during their lifetime.
Health informatics is also an important part of care coordination in nursing. The ability to track staffing, workflow and communication can help nurses to identify areas where current processes can be improved. This can also help ensure that staffing levels remain adequate, which is critical for providing patients with the best possible care. If the nurse-to-patient ratio drops too low, patients are more likely to suffer adverse results. Maintaining adequate levels helps nurses provide the best possible care each day without burning out.
Evidence-based practices have long been an essential part of nursing. Today, determining those best practices involves the use of health informatics. Analyzing the mass quantities of data collected regarding patient care and outcomes helps to determine how best to treat these conditions and situations in the future. The more data that is collected and analyzed, the more accurate the resulting conclusions tend to be, providing the best possible information for determining how best to care for patients in the future.
The growing role of informatics in nursing has also created a number of new job titles for those with clinical experience and an interest in working with data.
