NR 500 Week 5: Area of Interest PowerPoint Presentation

Area of Interest PowerPoint Presentation

Area of Interest PowerPoint Presentation

The issue of obesity and diabetes in people aged 30-50 years has almost reached epidemic proportions. As a future NP, I would like to implement an EBP to examine how simple lifestyle modifications such as increased activity and adjustment of caloric intake would impact obesity and diabetes in the thirty to fifty age group. Obesity and diabetes are consistent with family nurse practitioner as these nurses are responsible for managing the conditions through screening and implementation of interventionary measures. Family nurse practitioners are known for promoting healthy food choices and physical activities to people with the above conditions.

The selection of lifestyle modifications vis-à-vis the management of obesity and diabetes is particularly important to family nurse practitioners. Amongst the multifarious roles of FMNPs, the diagnosis and management of diabetes and obesity is the most critical. Thus, examining the usage of lifestyle modification in the management of the two conditions is fundamental to the specialty as it will give the FNPs more ammunitions in the management of the two conditions (Richardson, Derouin, Vorderstrasse, Hipkens, & Thompson, 2014). Also, as a primary care specialty, FNPs are required to use patient-centered, team-based approach in caring for patients with diabetes. Examining the usage of lifestyle modification aligns with the objective stated (Buckley & Bennett-Murray, 2018).

Examining an area of interest occur through various methodologies. One of the most important methods used in such examination entails the use of the PICOT methodology. The PICOT wil entail the target population, the issue at hand and the proposed solutions. Thus, for this matter, the following PICOT questions will be used:

PICOT: In diabetic and obese patients between the age of 30-50, will the adoption of lifestyle modification such as increased activity and reduced caloric intake lead to decreased hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels and BMI?

The assignment must be completed by Sunday, 11:59 p.m. (MT) at the end of Week 5. This assignment is worth 15% of your overall grade. See the details for this assignment below and in the Course Resources.

Purpose of Area of Interest PowerPoint Presentation

The process for affecting positive change to improve practice outcomes can start with either the identification of an area of interest or the identification of a potential or existing practice problem. Selecting an area of interest helps to define a direction of further inquiry. Areas of interests can be categorized as concepts or topics. A concept is generally a broader interpretation; whereas a topic is a more specific or narrow focus of an area of interest. The purpose of this assessment is for students to identify and discuss an area of interest specific to their selected specialty track.
