Selecting an appropriate study design for a research project is key to valid and non-biased research results. It is also important to use the most suitable design to collect data based on the aims or objectives of the study. The evidence-based practice project focuses on using health education to increase people’s willingness to take the Covid-19 vaccine. Therefore, the targeted design is a quantitative design. Specifically, a cross-sectional study will be used. This study design will enable the recording of the variables, such as willingness to take the Covid-19 vaccine, without having to manipulate the variable. This quantitative study design will also support the use of appropriate data collection tools and approaches to help collect the needed data (Sharma, 2022). Cross-sectional studies have also been shown to be the best when studying the impact of a newly introduced intervention. Indeed, as part of the project, a health education program will be introduced to boost vaccine uptake. Therefore, the use of a cross-sectional study will help determine how their willingness to take vaccines changes upon participating in the health education program.

As part of an evidence-based practice proposal, it is usually important to identify the best data collection tool that can be used in collecting the needed data. Therefore, as part of the plan, questionnaires will be used. The questionnaires will be used to collect various participant variables. The use of questionnaires is the best for this evidence-based practice proposal since it helps in collecting many variables at a time since the participants will be expected to fill in their details and respond to the written questions as appropriate (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2021). Determining the willingness to take covid-19 vaccine may require a collection and analysis of several variables, which can be collected using questionnaires as they are also easier to administer.

I remember you talking about your chosen evidence-based project topic on some of our previous discussion boards in this course and NUR 550, and believe that it is a very interesting topic that focuses on an area of increased healthcare deficit. Many people received conflicting information about the COVID vaccine in the past few years, especially when the research and vaccine itself were new back in 2020. I feel as though this result in large deficits in knowledge not only in the general public, but among healthcare providers as well. Studying the effects of a healthcare education program on vaccine compliance is a good measure of how providing increased access to education can impact a community’s response to health treatments. I wonder how different education methods such as verbalízate on versus printed out pamphlets or the use of visual guides could make a difference in the study as well?

I enjoyed reading your post! I will also be utilizing new education and questionnaire for my EBP project. I am finding that, with individuals’ beliefs and opinions, it is difficult to quantify the data. However, with your approach, it seems your data will be easier to quantify and gain knowledge. The cross-section study approach will be a great tool for you to glean results.

For my specific EBP project, I was able to collect both qualitative and quantitative design research. To be honest, I cannot pick one over the other because both give depth and valuable insights on my chosen topic. The quantitative design provided me with objective, numerical data that gives a black-and-white answer to a specific question. Per Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, (2019), quantitative studies provide a systematic, controlled, empirical and critical investigation of hypothetical propositions (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). On the other hand, the qualitative research gave me perspective and understanding of values not measured by numbers such as emotions and opinions. Nevertheless, the term qualitative research is not clearly distinguished from quantitative research and that they have overlapping characteristics. Further, some types of research may be either qualitative or quantitative. Historical research, feminist inquiry, and meta-analysis are examples of research approaches that may be either quantitative or qualitative or both. (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019)

The randomized clinical trial is often, although not always, held up as the gold standard against which relevant studies are appraised. (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019)

Careful planning is essential to all research. Even with a randomized control trial, it is very difficult to fill in the gaps, reduce preventable biases, or correct other mistakes that were made in planning the study. Nevertheless, this kind of research style will provide a clearer picture of my EBP project.

I will also be using qualitative research. When comparing them quantitative was more about data and numbers. However, Qualitative “provides deeper insights into real-world problems. Instead of collecting numerical data points” (Tenny, 2022).  Melynk and Fineout-Overhold, 2019 further explained qualitative research as gathering knowledge from patients/people who are living the event.
