CUE QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER FOR CARE STUDY ESSAY:

a. Have the child/family, Service Team and organisation remained anonymous?

b. Has a summary of the child’s condition and diagnosis been succinctly presented?

c. Is it evident that the child’s vulnerabilities and care categories (eg disability, complex, exceptional needs) has been considered and applied to the current literature?

d. Is it evident there is a sound yet concise and supported understanding of the relevant patho-physiology/sociological issue?

e. Has an intervention been clearly identified, with clear aims and how outcomes as life quality or independence has changed?

f. Does the rationale for the intervention make reference to national care policy drivers, care pathway principles and evidence based practice?

g. Is it evident that while the intervention is for the child, the wishes and needs of the parent and family have been considered and underpinned with supporting literature?

h. Is it evident the child nurse has (to some extent) considered the child as an individual person, their engagement, holistic needs, child development, partnership care principles including consent and safeguarding factors critically analysed and constructively evaluated?

i. Does the intervention plan identify the most appropriate place of care, the length of stay or transport, the need for specific resources (equipment) and how they are obtained?

j. Have service providers/ professional roles been explored with critical analysis surrounding how they work/collaborate/communicate effectively with others in the team?

k. Is it clear evaluation of the care study has a whole has identified key child nurse professional issues for integrated child nursing and specifically, intentions for future personal practice?

l. Is the structure clear, the academic presentation relevant to level 6, the focus of the paper relates to the unit learning outcomes and emergent issues for child nursing are identified and does the paper conclude succinctly?

m. Are references used relevant, is there critique evident, do references reflect children’s nursing sufficiently, is referencing accurate?
