Discussion Essay: Lazarus’ Stress Adaptation Theory
Please respond to this Lazarus’ Stress Adaptation Theory Essay post as if it was me using at least 1 scholarly article (within 5 years) in response to her chosen non-nursing theory. Min of 150 words.
The borrowed non-nursing theory I chose is Lazarus’ Stress Adaptation Theory. I will apply it to the advance clinical practice specialty area. His adaptation theory is process where people are observed while they undergo stressful situations. It is the psychological response to stress that is most important. His premise was that the more of the situation gets revealed the more the patient reacts to the stress. The anxiety isn’t the issue so much as the perceived notion that the patient is threatened. (McEwen & Wills, 2014) This brings me to the incorporation into the advance clinician. The Nurse Practioner sees the teens in their most vulnerable state and can only take care of them for that moment, possibly offer them a shelter name to sleep in for the night. The article has stages of runaways and as they progress through the stages, they become harder more institutionalized in affect. Neglect and abuse usually is the catalyst for the end product of a child living on the street and being subject to all the street has to offer, for instance drugs and prostitution. (Jongserl, 2010) This theory will help the practioner assess the stage and level of degradation that adolescent is in. The behaviors of apprehension and fear are reactions to the clinician and their care. It will also remind the advance practioner that physical illness is often how stress manifests itself and that age isn’t a factor when having stress. This Theory will allow the Nurse practioner to include a plan to destress the patient and try to incorporate that in very short-term goals for the patient to achieve in hopes that there may be a way for the child to get off the streets and stay safe. The success of the teen depends on their coping skills that will decrease the stressors and move the patient into adapting a positive lifestyle. It is a useful guide in treating patients holistically.
All the categories of body feedback to stress arise from the disbalance between the stressor, on one hand, and the body resources available in overcoming stress on the other. If psychological stability is not at an optimal level, it causes the body homeostasis disbalance, physiological stability is damaged which leads to psychosomatic signs and diseases as the result of stress. As the key organ in overcoming stress, the brain has a significant role in adaptation to stress. That is why the scientists stress its potential and ability to regenerate and to provide the body with the potential to overcome the consequences of stress. In order to prevent and reduce the consequences of the influence of the stressogenic stimuli on the body, the way man can improve his quality of life and body health should be taken into account.
Physical activity is one of the ways of achieving that goal, and the fact regarding the positive influence of physical exercise on the health and the emotional status of the body is well known and has been confirmed scientifically in many medical and psychological studies. The aim of the paper is the influence of the analysis which stress can have on the brain and the body and the synthesis of the results which confirm the importance of physical activity in everyday life, and especially under post stress circumstances, that is, while adapting to stress. The effects of physical exercise, as a measure of prevention, influence the optimal health status of an individual, which indirectly improves the function and the efficacy of exercising. Advances in neuroscience have tasked experts with using their knowledge and findings about the positive influence of physical exercise in order to better understand all the aspects of adaptation to stress and the reestablishment of the body homeostasis. I have attached a sample paper in APA format and will also post sample discussion responses in subsequent announcements.
Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.
I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength. I pray that each and every one of you receives strength for this course and life generally as we navigate through this pandemic that is shaking our world today. Relax and enjoy the course!
